Myself and my Dad have been consistently detecting and competing in hunts since the late 1960's and early 70's. I won my first kids hunt in Bakersfield in 1972. I still have the trophy and remember it well. They only had three hunts; the Men's hunt, Women's hunt and the kids hunt. I won the Kids hunt and my Dad won the Men's. We didn't have anyone entered in the women's hunt. Since then we have competed in literally 100's of hunts and evolved with the industry and the machines.
